"The Ocarina of Time"The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of TimeBy: Link the GreenPreface : Hyrule's History The Book Of Mudora tells of the beginning of time, the creation of the world and the specifically, Hyrule. The magical book focuses on a certain legend of Hyrule, which is universally popular. Throughout this legend, it appears as if the world as we know it was saved no less than 8 times by heroes of valour and courage. This legend is known as the Legend of Zelda. After the three goddesses created the land of Hyrule, they left the Triforce behind in a Sacred Realm. The Triforce was composed of three parts, each containing the power of one of the goddesses. The Triforce of Power contained Din's power, The Triforce of Wisdom contained Nayru's wisdom, and the Triforce of Courage contained Farore's courage. If someone obtained the Triforce who wasn't balanced in wisdom, power, and courage, they kept the Triforce representing the force they believed in the most. The other two parts of the Triforce would be given to the people who believed most in the force that Triforce represented. Hyrule was once a peaceful land, and the 6 races had good relationships with each other. The Hylians, the dominant race, were treated with respect because of their magical skill and their intelligence. The Sheikah were a magical and mysterious race, and were taller than the Hylians. The fish like Zora's protect the water areas of Hyrule and lived secretly in their own hideaway, overlooked by their god Jabu-Jabu. The Kokiri were elf-like children who although aged normally in mind, never grow old in appearance. They are watched by The Great Deku Tree and are mostly ignored by Hyrule. Gorons were strong, fat, and lazy rock-eating creatures that lived on Death Mountain, and in their village of Goron City within the mountain. The Gerudo are a race of all women, with the exception of the one male who is born every 100 years and is destined to rule their race. They are almost all theirs, and are not fully trusted by the other races, because treachery and betrayal are traits they posses. Fairies were the first creatures to inhabit Hyrule, and they are the wisest of all beings in the land. They look over the Kokiri children, and can heal people with their magic. Hyrule was at peace for years and the magical Temple
Of Time stood undisturbed in the Hyrule Castle Town Market. The races had
no problems with each other and treated each with respect, with the exception
of the Gerudo, who hailed to the west of Hyrule, towards the desert. The
ruler at that time, Ganondorf Dragmire, was a young man with evil intentions.
He was told stories of the Triforce and the Sacred Realm, and he wished
with all his heart to journey into the legendary place and steal the artifact
to control Hyrule. The Gerudo noticed Ganondorf harboured and evil heart
from birth, but they paid no mind, as they could not see how he could possibly
enter the Sacred Realm because it was one, guarded by and unmovable door
and two, Gerudo were hardly allowed near Hyrule Castle. It is here we begin
our tale, where a young Ganondorf begins plotting and a young boy starts
to have unsettling nightmares...
Book 1: The Spiritual Stones Chapter One: A Beginning, An Ending "Dost thou feel it, Navi?" "Yes." "The climate of evil descending upon this world." "Why have you summoned me, Great Deku Tree, what must I do?" "Go forth to the forest. Find a young boy by the name of Link. This boy is of great importance." "Is he the.......the one, Great Deku?" "As I said, he is of great importance Navi, he needs no burdens now. Go now, and bring him to me." "As you wish." And with that Navi the fairy flew off towards the Kokiri Forest, a stone's throw away from The Great Deku Tree's Meadow. Meanwhile in that very forest of the eternal children, a certain boy is having a terrifying nightmare.... The rain poured down. It soaked Link to the skin, and he realised he had no idea where he was. He found himself standing in front of a mysterious castle, the same as every nightmare he had recently. A rider on horseback would race by, carrying a girl. The girl looked at Link as if she wanted to tell him something urgent. Once they passed, Link's heart would drop and a man clad in black would emerge from the castle and look menacingly upon Link, as if into his soul. Then as always Link awoke with a start, sweating and shivering. As his eyes peeled he heard the high, piercing voice of a fairy enter his ears much to his annoyance. "Link!" The fairy cried. "Link you must get up now!" Link groaned and turned over in bed, away from the flying annoyance. "Link, you have been summoned by The Great Deku Tree, get out of bed this minute you ignorant Kokiri!" The high-pitched voice invaded Links ears once more. Link's eyes flashed open at the mention of the Deku
Tree, and he obeyed the fairy's orders and got up.
"Follow me, this is the passage to the Great Deku Tree's meadow." Navi said, flying towards a small passage guarded by a red haired Kokiri. Link's eyes narrowed as he noticed who stood in his way. "Well if it isn't Link, the fairy-less one." The boy sneered. "Turn back Link, unless you have a sword and shield, by order of The Deku Tree." Link turned his back to show his Kokiri shield and then unsheathed his Kokiri sword threateningly at the boy. "Let me through Mido, or else." said Link, taking a step toward Mido. Mido stared at Link, dumbfounded. He snorted and stepped aside muttering under his breath. "You know better Mido." Link said, "Oh and here's my fairy Navi, you idiot." Link strolled through, leaving a fuming Mido behind. "That wasn't very nice Link." Navi pouted as they walked up the passage. "Mido is a bully, and he always has been. I've been waiting to get my own back for a long time." Link replied, looking satisfied. "Link, watch out!" Navi high shout alerted Link to the giant piranha plant that rose from the ground, and Link managed to jump attack it before it could get him. "Pretty slick, huh?" Link said smugly. "Behind you!" Navi screamed. Link spun round and blocked a massive bite from another plant and chopped its head off. "Don't be so cocky Link, although Hyrule is beautiful, behind its exterior lies evil at every turn," Navi scolded. Link nodded and they continued up the passage, arriving
in front of the Great Deku Tree.
"Oh Navi, thou hast returned!" The Deku Tree smiled upon the two beings, and warmth entered the heart of Link. The Tree turned to Link and spoke: "Thy slumber these past moons has been restless, and full of nightmares. A vile climate pervades this world. Verily, ye hath felt it. The time has come to test thy courage. I hath been cursed Link, and I need you to dispel with your wisdom and courage. Art thou prepared? " "I am ready Great Deku Tree." Link spoke solemnly. Link then entered the Great Tree and battled many hardships, and picked up a few new weapons including a slingshot, and Deku seeds. As Navi informed him he was coming to the end of the Tree, Link felt his heart go heavy with dread. As he entered the final room, he knew evil lay in wait. As Link cautiously walked into the centre of the room, he heard shuffling and scratching from all around him. Link looked all around to find the source of the noise, right and left. As he scoured the ceiling of the room, he saw a massive eye look directly at him. Link thought it was a statue of some sort until the eye blinked, and down dropped the largest spider he had ever seen in his life. The insect was roughly 3 times Links height, and its legs were hairy and spiky. "Link, its The Parasitic Armoured Arachnid Gohma!!" Navi wailed, flying out from behind the young warrior. "The what?!?" Link screamed, caught by terror. The spider slowly moved toward Link, who was frozen in fear. The spider looked Link up and down and raised her legs and moved in for the kill. "Let her come close Link!" Navi said, "Then when her eye turns red, shoot it with your slingshot!" Link backed off slightly and let Gohma prowl closer, until he could smell the flesh from her mouth. She revved back and threw her head forward, her eye turning blood red. "Now Link!" Came a high-pitched voice from the other side of the beast. Link pulled back and hit the bull's-eye, making Gohma recoil in pain. "Now what?!" Link cried. "Sword her!" As Link drew his sword and began chopping at Gohma, he realised how much he actually enjoyed fighting, especially with his sword. As these thoughts passed through his head, he then noticed he had killed the arachnid in one attack. He smiled at his work, still slightly shaken. 'By the love of Din!' Navi thought, 'He is amazing with the sword!' Once Gohma disintegrated, a magical blue circle of light shone from the ground and Link stepped in, and immediately felt refreshed, as if he had never fought at all. All that remained was memory. Link felt as though he was flying, and found himself back in front of the Deku Tree, who although looked worn, wore a massive smile upon the cracks of his face. "Well done Link, my curse is broken! I knew ye were worthy of carrying out my wishes. An evil man of the desert cast this curse upon me, which is unbreakable. Employing his vile, sorcerous energies, the evil one is searching for the sacred realm connected to Hyrule. For there is where one will find the divine relic, the Triforce, that contains the essence of the gods. Whoever holds the Triforce can make their wishes come true. Thou must never allow the desert man to lay his hands on the Triforce. Thou must never suffer that man to enter the sacred realm of legend." The Deku Tree sighed. "Go now to Hyrule Castle, to the North of Hyrule. There is where thou shall meet the Princess Of Destiny. Present this stone to her, she shall understand." The Tree then gave Link the Spiritual Stone of the Forest, a beautiful green jewel. Before dying, the Deku Tree's last words were, "The future depends on thee, Link. Thou art courageous." |
